Oceânico Nick Faldo Course
18holes golf course of the Amendoeira Golf Resort near Alcantariha
Location and access
The Amendoeira Golf Resort, set in an area of outstanding natural beauty, lies in the interior of the western Algarve north of the little village of Alcantarilha and only a short drive to the historic town of Silves. The surrounding area is dominated by the fertile Barrocal landscape, the transitional area between the coastal strip and the mountains of the Serra. It is only a two km drive from the national road EN125 in Alcantarilha and from the A22 motorway (exit 7).
Oceânico Nick Faldo Golf Course, designed by Sir Nick Faldo, opened on the 1st September 2008. This challenging course requires a well thought out playing strategy and needs careful positioning to score well. Rocky outcrops, and meandering watercourses come into play at several holes and views to the distant mountains and orange groves determine its essential character.
In a modern twist on a traditional recipe, cacti and wild herbs replace the role of Sunningdale’s heather, spartan Holm oaks and ancient olive trees take the place of a lush English woodland, and desert scrub bunkers of crushed limestone replace Berkshire’s sandy tracts in a golf course that revels in the classic principles of strategic play.
Facilities and services
The magnificent Clubhouse with a Pro–shop, Greenside bar & café, Spike bar & restaurant, banqueting room and luxurious changing rooms is shared by the players of the neighbouring O’Connor course as well as the excellent practice facilities and the Amendoeira Golf Resort Academy & Callaway Fitting Suite.
Although situated in the immediate neighbourhood to the Amendoeira Resort, the two courses designed by Nick Faldo and O’Connor Jr. Have completely different characteristics due to the diverse profile of the terrain. Together they offer an unforgettable golf experience.
